Sneezing facts
Humans close our eyes when sneezing because, among other things, we have no choice. It is a reflex action, nervous system senses that will be a sneeze and sends the relevant command to our eyelids close. Action and reaction, that simple.
Close your eyes when you sneeze is not something trivial, but a protective mechanism of the body to prevent further damage. Keep in mind that the air stream from the lungs and reaches the nose passes at high speed, so that if some of that air escaped eyeballs could damage them. They will not leave the eye orbit, contrary to popular belief, but they could become infected.
Actually, there are some people who can sneeze with your eyes open. It is those who have lost the reflections, due to a failure in the nerves that connect the brain with the eyelids. But they are a minority, exceptional cases.
Sneezing, very common in the spring because of allergies, especially dangerous when driving. Close your eyes and driving is something necessary sometimes, but not least risky.
